Following the many concerns and comments received about the new car parking charges, we have taken stock of the situation and amended the charges as follows:

• Up to 30 minutes – FREE
• Up to 2 hours – £1.00
• Up to 3 hours – £2.00

• The pay and display machines will be set to allow a maximum of two free 30 minute periods in any given 24 hour period – one am and one pm

After any period of free or paid for parking there is a 10 minute grace period so that there is an element of leeway before any enforcement can take place. For example (30 minutes + 10 minutes grace, 2 hours plus 10 minutes grace, etc).

We appreciate signage has led to some confusion and this will be improved and clarified for all users.

The aim of having a period of free parking outside Romford was to encourage people to visit our high streets and support local businesses, with the revised tariffs it is hoped that the spirit of the scheme can bring that intention back into line.

Regardless of the lengthy consultation period, it is right we listen to our residents and, where possible, be prepared to make changes for the better.

The new charges will be effective from 27th April and we hope it brings about a greater degree of clarity and intention.
