Dartford Crossing Classed as ‘Rural Road’

The Dartford Crossing (A282)

For 15 years the Dartford Crossing (also known as the A282) has been wrongly classed as a rural road by the Department of Transport – meaning that it was exempt from air pollution monitoring.

The crossing, which carries some 1m vehicles per week, frequently suffers grinding congestion, particularly when travelling from Kent into Essex, and is one of the country’s worst air pollution hot-spots.

Apparently the road has now been reclassified, but air pollution remains unchanged!
