In honour of the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death, Romford Summer Theatre will be staging an open-air production of “Much Ado About Nothing” during the last two weeks of June. The play tells the story of two pairs of lovers; Hero and Claudio, eager and impatient; Beatrice and Benedick, fighting against their mutual attraction – much to the amusement of their family and friends. Add to the mix, Don John, who will do anything to upset the intended nuptials of Claudio and Hero to spite his brother and the stage is set for one of Shakespeare’s finest comedies. The Director, June Fitzgerald, has decided to place the action during the second Boer War, where the red-coated uniforms of the soldiers and the elegant gowns of the late Victorian / early Edwardian era will be perfectly highlighted against the atmospheric background of The Rockery in Raphael Park.
Generally considered one of Shakespeare’s best comedies, the play combines elements of robust hilarity with more serious meditations on honour, shame and court politics, so book your tickets now to avoid missing out. Tickets cost just £10.00 (£8.00 concessions) are are available from the online Box Office (https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/event/127728). Tickets can also be purchased on the door.
Performances take place at 8pm on Thursday 16th, Friday 17th and Satuday 18th June, and at 8pm on Thursday 23rd, Friday 24th and Satuday 25th June. But if late nights are not your thing, don’t worry, there is a 3pm performance on Sunday 19th June which is suitable for families. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome to accompany their owners to the production.
This is an open air production so audience members are advised to wear suitable clothing as it can get cold when the sun sets! In the event of cancellation due to bad weather, tickets will be valid on other performance dates.
