Havering Council – Housing Allocation Scheme consultation

Havering Council’s ‘Housing Allocations Scheme’ sets out how the council prioritises access to available social housing, for households on the council’s Housing Register.

The council have launched a consultation on proposals to change the qualification criteria. The main changes proposed are listed below –

  • Applicants will be required to demonstrate a continuous residency of ten years in the borough of Havering, rather than the current six years.
  • A residency exemption will be granted to applicants of refugee status or of traveller background of five years, subject to them meeting certain criteria.
  • To raise the gross income threshold for applicants from £36,000 to £50,000.
  • Change the savings limit to £30,000.

Residents and other interested parties can give their views via the online Housing Allocations Scheme survey, which will be open until 04 April 2021.
