Old Cooperians Launch Mini & Youth Section
Old Cooperians rugby club, based at Coopers’ Company and Coborn School, have successfully launched a mini and youth section this season, giving youngsters in Upminster and surrounding areas the opportunity to have fun, play and become part of the rugby family.
Already a successful and thriving senior club, ‘Old Coops’ have demonstrated their ambition to play a bigger part in promoting junior rugby participation by investing substantially in the mini and youth section which currently comprises Under 5, 6 and 9s teams. The current crop of 70 children enjoying rugby at Old Cooperians on Sunday morning have benefitted from brand-new age-specific equipment, thanks to the club’s investment, as well as the excellent rugby facilities at Coopers school, who have also supported the move.
Over the coming seasons, Old Coops’ vision is to build on the current age-groups to provide rugby for children from pre-school age up to Colts, embracing the Quilter ‘Kids First’ ethos.
Club Chaiman Ian Milroy said “As senior players, we all recognised the benefit that the game of rugby has given to us and wanted to do our bit to help encourage participation at mini and youth level.”
The club’s ambition has been very kindly matched by a substantial donation from St Cedd Masonic Lodge No.6519, Upminster, who have sponsored the new playing strips, worn here (Picture) by the Under 9’s for their maiden tournament at the Blackheath festival.
Old Coops welcomes new players for its Senior and its Mini and Youth sections. For further information about Old Cooperians please contact the Membership Secretary at ocrfc.mnymembership@gmail.com
