Pond Walk
We are very lucky locally to have some magnificent buildings and open spaces. For example, Upminster Golf Club with its wonderful club house, Upminster Windmill, which is currently being restored, the Old Chapel in St Marys Lane, Tithe Barn, Stubbers outdoor centre, the Golf Clubs in St. Marys Lane and in Fen Lane, North Ockendon, Hall Lane Playing fields and of course Upminster Park along with the Pitch and Putt in Hall Lane….to name but a few.
One other gem is the pond at Pond Walk fronting onto Front Lane – it is a real local treasure. Over the years many people have asked who owns the pond …the answer is the local community. Over the years the Residents’ Association has provided funding to assist with the upkeep of the pond.
In late June, following very dry weather, one of the willow trees came down across the front of the pond, and in early July, following an urgent request from us, the Council removed the other Willow trees that were in a precarious position and could have easily come down onto Front Lane! As a result, this has made the area much safer and has also opened-up the view of this wonderful pond to passers-by.
Cllr Ron Ower had also been chasing the Council to repair drainage to the pond. This has now taken place and any rain water will go straight into the pond which, over time, will raise the level of water. The Council intend to undertake further work at the pond.
Please see future Bulletin articles from local resident Bob Orriss, who lives close by and has regularly worked on the pond and surrounding area over may years.
