Save Our Shops (S.O.S.) Campaign – Latest News
Last Thursday (29th August), Cllr Damian White (Leader of Havering Council) held a ‘Meet The Leader‘ session at Upminster Library.
Your Upminster and Cranham Residents’ Association councillors attended, as did 100+ local residents and business people, who made their feelings clearly known to Cllr White, that the abolition of the free 30-minute car parking in Upminster and Hornchurch is having a hugely detrimental effect on the shops and businesses.
Cllr White abruptly ended the session when the people present objected vociferously to his defence of the Conservative led council’s policy.
The local radio station, Time FM, have posted details and short videos of what happened. See this link to their website.
The Save Our Shops (S.O.S.) campaign will continue to run until the ruling administration reverse the decision and re-instate the free 30-minute parking to our area.
I have just read that our neighbouring borough, Redbridge, has doubled free patking on high streets to one hour to support town centre businesses and give residents more time to visit shops.
Dear VB,
Thank you for your comment. You are correct and for the reasons given. This will add to the various Residents’ Associations group assertions that we should be protecting our shops rather than making their life harder by aboloshing the free 30-minute parking.
