Update re Gerpins Lane Recycling Centre

As many people will know, Gerpins Lane Recycling Centre was closed to the public at the start of the current coronavirus lockdown.

Your Residents’ Association councillors have been pushing for it to be re-opened as soon as possible, to allow people to legally dispose of larger items of waste and recyclables. Unfortunately, as the centre and others across East London are operated by the East London Waste Authority (ELWA), Havering Council do not have any direct control over this.

We have been told by Havering Council that they have asked for the centre to be reopened as soon as Government restrictions have been eased to allow people to go out and undertake such activities. The agreement of three other London boroughs served by the ELWA will also be needed and at that point, as long as suitable social distancing and traffic management measures are in place, Gerpins Lane Recycling Centre will be reopened to the public.

We will keep you updated with further news when we have it.
