Upminster Police Office to remain open
We are happy to bring the welcome news that it has been confirmed that the Upminster Police Office in Corbets Tey Road will remain open for the foreseeable future.
Over the last year the Metropolitan Police have been looking to reduce costs and had earmarked the Upminster office for closure, with the expectation of providing an alternative point for officers to operate out of, such as within a supermarket, shop or library etc. However, nothing suitable was found and it was looking increasingly likely that the Cranham and Upminster Safer Neighbourhood teams would be based in another ward, with officers having to walk, cycle or use public transport before being able to patrol or reach any incident within Upminster or Cranham.
The Police office has in recent times been functioning as a back office only, with the local Safer Neighbourhood officers based there but no public access or services. This is unlikely to change in the near future. Residents’ Association Councillors will continue to monitor the situation and if and when any changes are planned, we will publicise the details.
