‘The Leader of the Council and the Cabinet Member for Environment, alongside senior officers, have continued to engage closely with Transport for London (TfL) and Essex & Suffolk Water (ESW) as the Gallows Corner project moves into its final stages.

The Gallows Corner flyover is now structurally complete, with the new deck installed, resurfaced and fitted with new safety barriers. Only minor finishing works remain on the flyover itself. Activity through April is focused on completing the remaining water main commissioning activities and final highway works to the roundabout and its approaches, including surfacing, lining and reinstatement, ahead of the planned reopening.

Councillors and senior officers visited the site in March to see first‑hand the progress being made and to seek assurance on the remaining programme. TfL and ESW have confirmed that the project continues to work towards the previously published reopening of the full junction by the end of April 2026.

TfL has also advised that, once reopened, the strengthened flyover is expected to remove a significant proportion of heavy goods vehicles from the roundabout, and has confirmed that this will be monitored as part of its post‑opening evaluation work.’

Their open season for 2026 starts on Good Friday 03 April, with their popular Annual Easter Egg Hunt – the sails will be turning (wind allowing) and the Mill open for tours.

The mill site will also be open the following weekend 11-12 April 2026.

The mill and garden will be open on additional days in 2026, between April and October, for families and visitors, who can tour the mill or simply enjoy refreshments in their peaceful and award winning garden. Some new attractions are planned – further details, including opening dates and times for the year are available via upminsterwindmill.org .
