The Judy D’Cruz Fund have made a few changes from the previous years Afternoon Teas and the good news is they have been able to halve the price. So for just £10 you can have endless Tea and Cake whilst being entertained by the best young talent Upminster has to offer.

This year it is at 1pm on Saturday 09 May 2026 at The New Windmill Hall, St.Marys Lane, Upminster.

They are able to run this event at nil cost due to the kind sponsorship of C&D Interiors, Elmhurst Landscapes and MAA Eyecare. Also because all the cakes have been home baked by the wonderful local home bakers, they can insure that every penny raised goes to The Brain Tumour Charity – The Judy D’cruz Fund. Nothing will go to waste, as they have a partnership with Homeless help in Basildon, so any leftovers are also given to a good cause.

To buy tickets please go to www.judydcruz.com and select the Buy Your Tickets to Tea Party 2026 option. Thank you for your support as always.

Some time ago, Cllr Jacqueline Williams was able to request that Havering Council issue a Stop Notice at Lodge Farm, Park Farm Road, Upminster (known locally as Pumpkin Farm). The Notice prevented the further spreading of ‘rubble’ across the fields at this site.

The landowners subsequently applied for a Certificate of Lawfulness to carry out ‘operational development in the form of engineering operations to consolidate and extend existing agricultural hard-standing’ on the land. The work would have involved the ‘laying of clean, inert, permeable aggregate as part of a unified agricultural yard’. The Certificate of Lawfulness was refused by the council, as no buildings or structures are currently proposed on the site.

An Appeal (ref. 6006547) against this decision has now been made to The Secretary of State and representations/objections can be made to the Planning Inspectorate. This can be done on the Planning Inspectorate Portal or you can send it in writing to The Planning Inspectorate, c/o Quadient, 69 Buckingham Avenue, Slough, SL1 4PN.

The closing date for comments is 11 June 2026 and it is important that all correspondence quotes Appeal Reference 6006547.

Following our recent posts regarding the ongoing saga of the replacement of Gallows Corner Flyover in Romford, following the news from Transport for London (TfL) that the re-opening of the new flyover and any part of the junction has been delayed indefinitely, Havering Council have stated that they have now “…lost trust and confidence in TfL and Essex and Suffolk Water’s (ESW’s) ability to deliver these improvements in a timely manner…”.

The full Havering Council statement is below –

‘Following last week’s deeply disappointing news that the improved Gallows Corner flyover would not reopen at the end of April as previously promised, Havering Council has been meeting with Transport for London (TfL) to try to find an urgent solution to the ongoing problem.

Earlier this week, TfL presented officers with a potential solution that would see a partial reopening of the flyover and some routes that lead to and from the roundabout. They assured us that adequate modelling has been carried out to ensure this would be safe and not have a knock-on effect, causing more traffic in the surrounding roads.

However, less than two days later, they backtracked yet again saying they couldn’t partially open the flyover.

The project, which is run by TfL and Essex and Suffolk Water (ESW), was supposed to finish last September, and has significantly overrun, causing widespread disruption and chaos on Havering roads. The latest delay is due to a leak in the new ESW infrastructure, however they are currently unable to even identify the cause of the leak.

Andrew Blake-Herbert, Chief Executive of Havering Council, said:

“The project is not a Havering Council project, and I’m just as frustrated as all of you with the impact the continued extension of work is having on residents and business.

“The Council has lost trust and confidence in TfL and ESW’s ability to deliver these improvements in a timely manner, and we are currently pushing them to resolve the problem as quickly as possible, and consider safe partial reopenings to get Havering roads moving again.

“We will, of course, continue to pursue compensation for this farce, and urge both TfL and ESW to do whatever it takes to make this right for the people of Havering.”
