Council budget setting meeting update
At the meeting of Havering Council on Wednesday 02 March 2022, the council budget for the year 2022/23 was set. As part of this, the Council Tax rates and Members (councillors) Allowances for the year ahead were also set.
The joint amendment submitted by the Upminster and Cranham Residents’ Association (UCRA) Group, together with the Residents’ Group (who are Residents’ Association councillors in the Hornchurch and Elm Park areas), which proposed to reduce overall spending on Members Allowances by over £200,000 from that proposed by the Conservative Administration, was defeated by one vote.
However, another amendment submitted by the North Havering Residents’ Group (who are not connected to UCRA and have been aligned with the Conservatives for the past four years), which proposed to reduce allowances by a lesser £70,000, was passed. This reduces Members Special Responsibility Allowances by 15% across the board from the start of April.
