Details of Hall Lane closure 31 July to 03 September 2023

When the current closure of Ingrebourne Gardens ends on 30 July 2023, the second phase of the works will begin. This will involve the complete closure to traffic of Hall Lane from the junction with Ingrebourne Gardens to just south of the junction with The Fairway.

The second phase closure will last from Monday 31 July until Wednesday 23 August 2023 and then from Tuesday 29 August until Sunday 03 September 2023.

During these times buses will be diverting as follows –

  • Route 248 – Will divert via Ingrebourne Gardens in both directions and will still serve the Upminster Park Estate but not Avon Road.
  • Route 347 – Diverted via Avon Road, Front Lane and Ingrebourne Gardens in both directions. Route 347 will be diverting via Avon Road, so that users can catch the 347 to either Front Lane or Upminster Station, where they will be able to pick up the 248.

These works are likely to cause considerable disruption around this area of Hall Lane and the bus service around there and Avon Road will be very limited. The Route 347 bus operates four time a day in each direction on Monday to Saturday, with the first buses being mid-morning and the last in the late afternoon.

Cranham Ward councillors did ask for Havering Council and TfL to look into options to improve bus services but unfortunately a solution could not be found.

  1. AND WITHIN THE TIME FRAME FOR IMMINENT UPCOMING PROPOSED ULEZ ZONE TOO WHERE THERE’S ONLY 4 BUSES A DAY [ 347] TO SERVE AVON ROAD AREAS… IS JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE- GET KHAN ON THE PHONE AND TELL TFL TO SORT OUT AN AVON ROAD EXTENSION

  2. Thanks for posting about the bus changes.

The diversion of the 347 along Avon Road (4 buses per day each way, no Sunday service) is no substitute for the 248 (every few minutes, every day of the week). Assuming all this is due to the building works on the former Pitch and Putt site, might I suggest the company responsible be asked to provide a free minibus shuttle between Hall Lane and Front Lane, via Avon Road, for the duration?

    • Dear John,

They were asked to do this but declined, as there was no legal requirement for them to do so.

      Cllr John Tyler

  3. Attached to Bus Stops in Avon Road is a LARGE NOTICE showing the closure of Avon Road to Buses commencing FRIDAY (?) 7 August. This is obviously wrong, but the notice remains in place. Today (31 July) there were six people waiting for the 248 to Romford. A case of left and right hands not being in sync. Who is to blame?

    • Dear Tony,

Apologies for not replying sooner but I have been away. Thank you for this information. I will take it up with TfL.

      Cllr John Tyler

  4. Am I right in thinking Come Monday the 4th of Sept the 248 will commence its normal route via Avon rd/Hall Lane?
