Gallows Corner Update (15th August 2025)

Main Flyover Works

Steels have been arriving at the site this week from Germany. Construction of abutments and installation of steelworks has started. Localised foundation works to pile caps continue, to ensure structural integrity. Highway works to the roundabout are ongoing. These include kerb realignments and drainage.

Essex and Suffolk Water’s (ESW) main upgrades

ESW are experiencing some technical difficulties, and the programme of works is currently under review. However, Transport for London (TfL) has advised that the ESW works are not expected to delay the reopening of the flyover.

ESW directional drilling has stopped, which has reduced noise and disturbance for surrounding residents.

General Updates

  • Congestion on the network has settled down, as the school summer holidays have progressed. There are still delays but these are manageable.
  • The number of unauthorised vehicles using the bus lane at Gallows Corner remains low and is not affecting emergency responses or bus journey times.
  • Traffic marshals remain in place on approaches to the bus and emergency vehicle lane and have been provided with body cameras to deter anti-social behaviour. The presence of marshals has improved compliance and management of general traffic.
  • Costain has appointed a dedicated contact, Rob Noakes, who can answer questions about the work. The email address that should be used by residents to contact Rob is gallows@costain.com .
  • TfL have provided assurances that the flyover will reopen in September.
