Havering’s Heritage

We are lucky that in Havering we have a number of Conservation Areas. In Upminster Ward alone we have three –

  • Cranham Conservation Area around All Saints Church, Cranham, where James Oglethorpe (who founded the State of Georgia in the USA) is buried
  • North Ockendon Conservation Area, which incorporates Mary Magdalene Church
  • Corbets Tey Conservation Area, around the Corbets Tey Village end of Corbets Tey Road.

Councillor Linda Hawthorn, who takes an active interest in local heritage, has had a number of meetings with Council Officers regarding Havering Heritage sites.

In the Corbets Tey Conservation area, she has been taking up concerns on several buildings, such as The Anchor and High House. We are pleased to inform you that following Linda’s pressure, the Council are in discussions with English Heritage on this and a number of other areas.

You can find out more about all of the Conservation Areas in Havering by visiting Havering Council’s Conservation Areas webpage .
