Land behind Benets Road, Hornchurch

It has come to the attention of both Cranham and Emerson Park wards Residents’ Association councillors, that Havering’s Local Planning Authority has received an application for a ‘Request for Screening Opinion’ in regard to an outline planning application for 570 houses on ‘Land off Benets Road, Hornchurch’, which lies north of the Dury Falls Estate and east of Wingletye Lane.

At the moment, the application is for a Screening Opinion on whether an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will be required should a planning application be submitted. This means that a planning application has NOT been submitted and, consequently, no-one can submit comments or objections at this point.

However, RA councillors have submitted a joint letter, stating that we believe that an EIA should be required to be included with any future application.

It may be many months before an application is submitted, if at all, and at that point Residents’ Association councillors will make sure it is widely publicised, including how people can submit their comments to the Local Planning Authority.

  1. Very concerned about the possibility of 570 houses being built on this farming land. I worked on it when it was used for horticultural purposes growing gherkins, beetroots, small leaf parsley, peas etc., This is not a brown field site and should not be used for housing or anything industrial. I’d like to know who is behind this application. Is it big business or maybe another borough council looking to house council house tenants? Someone must know who is behind this proposal.

  2. Dear Mrs Webb,

Please see our most recent post on the potential development https://www.ucra.co.uk/potential-development-in-the-ingrebourne-valley/

    Kind regards

    Cllr John Tyler
