Lower Thames Crossing – Ground Investigation Work

Highways England has launched a programme of Ground Investigations along the route of the proposed Lower Thames Crossing. The investigations and surveys will give engineers a clear picture of the type of soils, rock and groundwater along the 14.5-mile route.

Most of the work will take place in Kent and Thurrock. However, Highways England will be carrying out some investigations in our area – mainly along the M25. Most work will be during normal working hours, Monday to Friday, from August until the end of the year.

This is not the start of construction, as the project doesn’t have planning consent yet. The information will help Highways England design the structures needed for the road including structures to support the road going underneath the M25.
