The Friends of Hall Lane Playing Fields, together with Havering Council’s Parks Department, have been hard at work this year, as their plans for improving the facilities at the playing fields come together. Visitors will have seen a new ball court opened earlier in the year, alongside the existing one, and concrete bases for extra benches have recently been laid.

One of the most pleasing improvements, is how the restoration of Monks Walk is coming along. Leading from next to the play equipment towards the north side of the playing fields, the avenue of trees that used to exist had sadly been lost over the years, until only a few remained. Now, new young trees are in place along the whole length, and are already showing quite how special the walk must have once looked and will hopefully be again.

Next year, the Friends Group will be looking at ways to increase the diversity of animals, insects and plants in sections of the playing fields.
