A planning application to build a three-storey block containing 22 apartment blocks for retirement living on the former Old Windmill Hall site in St Mary’s Lane, Upminster, was narrowly agreed this week by the Planning Committee.

Cllr Linda Van den Hende (Upminster RA) called in the plans for review and gave strong representations to the committee. However, they were approved with five votes in favour, three against and three abstentions.

Among the three against were Cllr Linda Hawthorn and Cllr Ron Ower (both Upminster RA) who sat on the committee both spoke out against the plans.

The application received 45 objections from local residents compared to eight in support.
