Railway 200 exhibition train visiting Upminster Station
Did you know that on 27 September 1825, the world’s first passenger train, hauled by George Stephenson’s Locomotion No.1, carried more than 400 people along the Stockton and Darlington Railway? The landmark event drew crowds of up to 40,000 people and marked the birth of modern passenger train travel.
Network Rail’s Railway 200, the national campaign celebrating 200 years of the modern railway, is bringing its nationally acclaimed exhibition train to Upminster, and is free to visit. The unique experience takes visitors on a journey through the past, present and future of rail – a British innovation that transformed the world.
The exhibition-inside-a-train visits Upminster station from Monday 26 January to Friday 30 January 2026.
