Thames Tideway Tunnel ‘Super Sewer’ completed
Thames Water have announced that London’s 25km Super Sewer, designed to protect the River Thames from storm sewage pollution, is now fully operational. This £4.5bn infrastructure project will reduce sewage discharges into the Thames and create lasting benefits for biodiversity, recreation, and public health.
The Thames Tideway Tunnel is the third part of a major intervention to help London’s wastewater, which should reduce storm sewage discharges into the River Thames by 95%. Following on from the first connection made in Autumn last year, the tunnel has since prevented five and a half million cubic metres of storm sewage.
