Upminster Art Society seeks new members

Founded in 1955 by Dr John Anthony, a Cranham GP, Upminster Art Society is now celebrating over 75 years of creativity and community. What began as a small gathering of local art enthusiasts meeting in Dr Anthony’s surgery, quickly grew into a thriving society. Our first exhibition, held in January 1956 at Oglethorpe School, featured 149 paintings by 32 artists and attracted around 600 visitors.

Over the years, the Society has met at several venues, including Upminster Junior School, the Clock House and Upminster Court, before settling at Cranham Community Centre, our current home.

Today, we remain a small but dedicated and friendly group, meeting on Wednesday evenings. We hold regular exhibitions at venues including Queen’s Theatre and Upminster Library. Although we no longer have a resident tutor, professional artist demonstrations and a varied programme continue to inspire members to develop their skills and enjoy painting together.

New members of all abilities are always welcome. For more information please contact Terry on 07880 770 324.
