Hall Lane Pitch & Putt – Opening Times
As part of the campaign to prevent the sale and redevelopment of the Hall Lane Pitch and Putt site it is important that it is seen to be used by local people and visitors. It has a full 18-hole mini golf course perfect for experienced golfers to practice their pitching and putting, for budding golfers to learn the game in an informal setting, or as an affordable and fun activity for all the family. There’s also a crazy golf course for younger children.
The Pitch and Putt is now open from 10am-5pm every weekend and school holidays April to October (weather dependent). Please give it a go and show that we really care about this important local venue.
Why isn’t in open in the week after school just went all the way there after school and it’s closed?
Dear Paul,
The reason for this is the lack of likely usage during the week outside of school holidays, compared to the cost of employing someone to staff it. Similarly, opening it for short periods, such as after school, would not be economically viable.
Kind regards
Cllr John Tyler
I see in the Latest Legal & Public Notices issued on 5 July 2019 that:-
Local Government Act – Appropriation of Land at Hall Lane, Upminster, Essex
“the London Borough of Havering have given notice that it intends to appropriate land held for recreational purposes which consists of an open space to planning purposes having an approximate area of 8.5 acres at Hall Lane, Upminster comprising Hall lane Pitch & Putt Course”.
Followed by-
Town & Country Planning Act-Disposal of Land at Hall Lane, Upminster, Essex
“The London Borough of Havering intends, following it’s appropriation to planning purposes, to dispose of land having an approximate area of 8.5 acres at Hall Lane, Upminster comprising Hall lane Pitch & Putt Course, which consists or forms part of an open space”.
So it looks like the fate of this lovely pitch & putt course has finally been sealed.
Dear Dave,
Please see our post from the 6th July https://www.ucra.co.uk/appropriation-disposal-of-hall-lane-mini-golf-course/ . The Public Notices are separate from the planning application and were always going to happen. They make the final outcome no more or less likely. However, it is important for people to object to both the ‘appropriation’ and ‘disposal’.

My husband and son visited 29 july at 10.05, waited for 10 mins. No one turned up to open up so they came home again. The had travelled from Grays.
Dear Teresa,
Thank you for letting us know. This is obviously not helping matters if the council are not opening up the course at the advertised time.

Visited at 10.50 today, gate was closed (as it is most days), and when the young lady arrived she was incredibly rude to us. She would not give us her name, and charged us extra for the golf clubs (this was never the case last year!). The layout was terrible, all the flags were either missing or metres away from their holes. Horrible experience, not surprised it is being closed down!
Dear Adrian,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. As you say, it is not helping the situation and we do highlight such incidents to relevant authorities within the council.

Cllr John Tyler
Decided I would try again, waited from 1 o’clock until 2.45, no one showed up and ended up going home angry. Travelled 30 minutes just for this, and am truly disappointed. (This was on Friday the 2nd of August).
Dear Adrian,
Thank you for highlighting this. We are raising each instance with the people responsible and will be using such evidence if the Administration claim that there is a lack of use.
Kind regards

Staying with my sister in Rainham at the moment so decided I would come and visit the place whilst in town, but when I arrived it was closed? (Saturday the 10th of august, 11 o’clock). Me and my nefu the went into upminster for lunch and came back at quarter to 1, and it was again shut. Has the golf course already been sold? Shame if it has! Xx
Dear Dani,
Thank you for letting us know. My apologies for not replying sooner.
The course has not been sold but is still under threat. We have highlighted to the person responsible in the council that the course is not always being opened at the advertised times and have been assured the problem will cease. However, we are grateful to people letting us know when this is not the case.

I went with my family and I must say this park is definitely in need of an improvement. I do not suggest going here. Litter everywhere, rude staff and the flags aren’t even in properly. They were on the floor and I am completely not impressed with this place.
Dear Daniel,
Thank you for letting us know. My apologies for not replying sooner.
I will pass this information on to the person responsible within the council.
Kind regards

Is there parking available please?
Dear Gary,
The nearest off-street parking is at the side of the Hall Lane Playing Fields, around 100m north of the mini golf on the same side of the road (entrance right next to the Upminster Golf Club entrance). There is also on street parking available in nearby side streets.

Is this still open this Saturday? How much is the pitch and putt for an adult?
Thank you!
Dear Anna,
The course should be open from 10am – 5pm weekends and school holidays until the end of October, weather dependent. I can’t remember the exact cost but it should be around £5 for an adult.
Kind regards
Cllr John Tyler
