Arts Society, Havering January 2024 talk
The next Arts Society, Havering talk will be on Tuesday 09 January 2024 at 10.30am in the New Windmill Hall, St. Mary’s Lane, Upminster.
The talk will be Goya: War and Peace, Revolution and Exile by Gail Turner.
Goya’s long life and career spanned the reigns of four Spanish monarchs, and much social and political upheaval. Until his late forties his main work was designing subjects for the royal Tapestry works in Madrid, but by the 1790s he branched out into portrait painting, political satire, and experimental works. He was an energetic and restless genius whose painting reflected the turbulence of his age, and his work is still relevant today.
Historian, art historian, and painter, Gail Turner is passionate about Spain and Spanish topics. She has been a long-time lecturer for The Arts Society, and before Covid she taught on courses at the V&A, and for Art Pursuits, the National Gallery and the Art Fund. She is President of The Arts Society Colchester.
This event is open to visitors for a fee of £8:00.
