Christmas 2024 – Urgent appeal for help
Due to Havering Council having to make cuts in non-essential expenditure, town centres across the borough will, sadly, not be receiving any financial assistance for the funding of Christmas festivities in 2024.
However, the Upminster & Cranham Residents Association (UCRA) are presently well-placed to be able to give some financial assistance, to provide festive street lighting and (as we have done in previous years) cover the cost of a Christmas tree and tree lighting. Many of our local town centre businesses have in the past also contributed with practical help and sponsorship.
UCRA is creating a ‘working committee’ to plan this year’s Christmas festivities and we would welcome several members of the local community (around two) joining us. The committee currently comprises of two local councillors, and three members of our Executive Committee.
We are looking for people who are prepared to provide practical assistance in both the planning/organization and running of the event. If you have any relevant skills you feel you could contribute, we would be very pleased to hear from you.
Applicants would need to be available to meet in person at intervals in the period from now until middle of November. The Town Centre Light Switch-On is at a date to be advised (most likely at the end of November 2024).
If you are interested in assisting, please contact Cllr Jacqueline Williams by e-mail at jwucra@gmail.com or on 07497 108 563.
