Flights and passenger numbers at London City Airport to rise
Government ministers have approved (on appeal) an application by the owners of London City Airport to increase annual passenger numbers from 6.5 million to 9 million a year and add an extra three flights between 6.30am and 7am in the morning.
However, the airport’s proposals to undertake flights during the current curfew on Saturday afternoons, was rejected, with the period from 12.30pm on Saturday to 12.30pm on Sunday remaining free of flights.
Newham Council (where the airport lies) had previously rejected the application, with Havering Council joining six other London Boroughs to make a representation to the Planning Inspectorate against the appeal, as well as objecting to the original planning application.
Full details of the decision can be found on the Government’s Recovered appeal: London City Airport webpage.
