Safer Streets funding unlikely for Havering

Last week, the government announced a doubling of Safer Streets funding, to provide additional public CCTV and lighting to various locations across the country.

Following the announcement, Upminster and Cranham Residents’ Association councillors asked council officials whether Havering had bid for any of the original funding and were told that the borough had made an initial enquiry but had been informed that London’s proportion was going to three boroughs with high crime rates and Havering (fortunately) did not meet this criteria.

It is likely that the extra funding will go to the same or other high crime areas in London and so it is once again probable that Havering would be unsuccessful should they submit a bid.
